A new virtual format for experiencing BBC Radio 1’s Rave Lounge — their DJ-led evolution of the iconic Live Lounge. Broadcast live on Radio 1 and simultaneously accessible via web and mobile, the space offers an immersive, interactive way to attend in real time, enabling performers to connect with audiences in a fresh and dynamic way.
To ensure a smooth experience for BBC Radio 1’s wide audience, we delivered an ultra-performant build optimized for both web and mobile. The environment was developed in Unity and exported to three.js for seamless, instant access across platforms. Given strict limitations on poly count, lighting, and animation we engineered custom BPM-synced shaders to enhance interactivity and atmosphere without compromising performance.
The event was a major success, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from both attendees and performers — even Pete Tong praised the experience. Despite the demanding technical requirements, we delivered a compelling and well-optimized virtual space that resonated with audiences.
